I grew up in the North of England, before moving to London to study Modern History at Kings College, University of London. After university I worked at Sotheby’s before joining trade fashion magazine Drapers Record as a trainee fashion journalist.

In 1993 I was appointed Fashion Editor of The Mail on Sunday. In my four years there, I travelled regularly to the fashion shows in Paris, Milan and New York and interviewed some of the world’s top designers (including John Galliano, Giorgio Armani and Calvin Klein).

During the course of my career I have appeared on many TV and radio programmes including GMTV and Sky News, to comment on fashion and beauty issues. I also worked as fashion and beauty director of a magazine within the National Magazine Company, before leaving to pursue a freelance career.
